Momma’s Boy (Kansas City, MO) continues their self-produced streak with their new single, “Asleep On The Floor,” produced, recorded and mixed in the band’s attic rehearsal space by bassist Jared Bajkowski and mastered by Shy Boys (POLYVINYL) member Ross Brown.

At its core, “Asleep On The Floor” explores the exasperation and pain that comes with having said “sorry” so many times that it’s lost all meaning — even if you still mean it.

The single reflects the band’s rough-around-the-edges, made-in-the-midwest ethos via its lo-fi production style and western-flavored arrangement. As its principle songwriter, Shaun Crowley brings his intimate, roots rock influences to “Asleep,” offering a glimpse into the pain and futility of the worn out apology. Acoustic guitars and distant, dive bar guitars dominate the track’s smoky landscape, as well as Crowley’s signature raspy croon, conjuring an atmosphere scattered with empty bottles and the perfume of regret. The song’s choruses rise with a desperate, many-voiced cry that comes to a head when — out of nowhere — trumpets burst into a triumphant climax.
